Tea Canister: Japanese Washi Paper Skeleton
Hand-wrapped, washi tea canister with image of The Ruined Palace at Sōma, Princess Takiyasha, daughter of Masakado (Soma no furudairi ni Masakado no himegimi Takiyasha), a famous Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print from around 1844 by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The print depicts a scene from the popular Edo-period novel The Story of Utō Yasutaka, where the sorceress Princess Takiyasha, conjures a giant skeleton spirit to help her fight against her enemies at their ruined family palace.
