Derived from an old name for the island of Sri Lanka, Serendib or Serendip, the term, coined by English writer Horace Walpole in 1754, refers to the heroes of a fairy tale, The Three Princes of Serendip, who wandered freely and were forever making accidental discoveries of \"valuable or agreeable things not sought\". Also, Sri Lanka is one of the largest tea producing countries in the world.

Our History

serendipiTea was born thirty years ago via a happy accident that revealed a passion for rare and authentic teas. Our commitment, from the beginning, has been to loose-leaf quality and hands-on craft, doing the sorting, blending, and packing by hand. Over time we expanded our direct-import relationships while preserving the artisanal practices that defined us from the start.

What Sets Us Apart

We are independently owned and not private equity backed, which lets us build long-term, values-driven supplier relationships instead of chasing trends. We select suppliers based on sustainability, worker benefits, and transparency and offer specialty, kosher, and organic options at a premium quality and competitive cost. The result is a thoughtfully curated tea collection, direct-to-consumer pricing, and a company that puts people and planet before packaging and profits.
